Contents on Installation CD
The installation CD provides:
- A full live system for users to try before installation;
- A copy of the compiler;
- A copy of the installer;
- The full source code along with the "intermediate representations".
All of the above are "generic" per each processor architecture, which means they don't assume any specific processor model. More precisely, only instructions available on all processor models of a target architecture are used.
The installation process of the Glaux operating system involves creating dedicated partitions on the drive, copying the source and the "immediate representations" to a standard path and finishing compilation from the "intermediate representations". This ensures that the installed system can either be optimised for a specific processor model, or be compiled for "generic" in case of a portable installation.
Afterwards, user accounts are set up and various settings are tuned. Finally, the user may continue using the live system or reboot into the newly installed system.
